We are roughly half way through third program block of 2024 at Milly’s Place. We are currently running a number of exciting programs including: Visual Arts, Cooking, Ceramics, All Things Print and a Friday Fun Day as well as others throughout the next couple of months.
Read about what our participants are learning, and how they’re growing in their skills.
In this 12-week program our participants are practicing commissions! They’re learning about how to work to a brief, how to create possible examples for consideration by the client, learn to liaise with a client to meet their needs, and produce commissioned work to the client’s satisfaction.
Our client is LME Care, and we will liaise with our facilitators Sydney and Narelle to produce some advertising postcards.
Participants are exploring portraiture and facial expressions showing emotion. We are exploring the positive emotions of happiness, beauty, sassy and laughing. We’re going through facial anatomy placement, appropriate colour to portray the emotion both physically and to colours on the emotive colour wheel. This adds more direct and indirect recognition of the emotion and to create their own take as an individual artwork.
We hope our client loves our finished product – stay tuned!
The program’s focus is to create a body of work that can be sold. Participants will work in a design group to determine the projects they will undertake during the 12-week program.
We’ve had so much fun getting to work on all of these designs, we can’t wait to share our finished products!

Our current 12 week block for “All Things Print” we’re diving into Lino printing! As a quick background, Lino printing, (also known as lino cutting), is a printmaking technique that goes back to the early 20th century. It’s an effective method for creating multiple prints of an artistic piece using linoleum. Famous artists such as Picasso and Henri Matisse were known to create linocut works.
Our facilitator guides our group through the complete process of lino printing. Starting with designing their own artwork, learning how to transfer a design onto a lino sheet, carve it using lino cutters, and finally ink and print a design onto paper or fabric. This hands-on activity enhances fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and cognitive abilities while fostering creativity and self-expression.
Participants are working towards the Milly’s Place Market stall and are joining in on the practice Commission postcards!
Fridays are all about FUN at Milly’s Place! This is a brand new program and is a lead by our wonderful participants. Each week, participants choose their adventure- ranging from tie-dying, crocheting, shopping, Beauty shop pamper station, outings/events and so, so much more. The choice is yours!
