Milly’s Place Report: March 2023

We have launched our new NDIS Community Hub – Milly’s Place, right next to our main offices in Annerley, Brisbane.

It’s our aim to keep everyone updated regularly on what’s been happening, share fun photos and let you know what’s being planned in the coming months for you to get involved.

Hear from our awesome facilitator Sandy Smith as she gives us our March 2023 update on Milly’s Place below:

Background On Milly’s Place

“Firstly, I would like to share with you some background on how we came up with the name Milly’s Place. Milly is our Border Collie puppy who recently joined the LME Care team as our happiness facilitator. We have been watching her grow up over the past few months and bring so much joy to our clients and team. Milly comes to visit us at the Community Hub regularly to share her abundant energy and love.”

Creative Arts Program Update

Our Creative Arts Program has been attended with much enthusiasm, and clients have painted incredible works, and even sold some of their paintings. Wednesday, we have our wonderful Community music day which is very interactive and supports our socialisation needs. If you love music and dancing and meeting people, this is the program for you!

Did Someone Say Pottery?

Yes we sure did! We have started our pottery program which runs weekly on a Thursday. We have lots of projects coming up so if you would like to, come and join in the fun! The Clients who have been attending are enjoying getting their hands dirty, and refining their skills and hand eye coordination making pinch pots and making animal cats & dogs, bowls and so much more. Seeing the finished products are really special and a great keepsake for the clients to keep or give to loved ones as gifts.

IT Program Update

Wednesdays we have our IT (Information Technology) Program which is all about increasing confidence and gaining skills when using a computer. We focus on everything from basics like how to turn a computer on, plugging in a mouse or keyboard, through to complex skills like composing stories on word documents and writing emails. We are even learning how to have a bit of fun and play games which is also a weekly favourite. We focus on what level each client is at, and what level they feel comfortable in learning and help them to grow and stretch each week.

General Updates & Other Programs

There is a brand new kitchen being installed at Milly”s Place very soon! We have already started a search for a talented Chef to join our team. Those who love cooking this will be your opportunity to display your skills. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please reach out to the LME Care team.

Then have also introduced another fun program called Beauty Tip. This is for anyone who loves to test out or try new techniques wearing makeup, learning about skincare have your nails painted or having a warm relaxing and foot spa. This program really is for anyone who loves a bit of a weekly pamper.

We love a good theme day here at Milly’s place! It’s always a lot of fun and laughter, celebrating different cultures or events. This March we celebrated St Patrick’s day. What better way to do it than with making green coloured pancakes (don’t worry, it was only food colouring – it was completely safe and edible), green cordial, green mints you name it, and it was green! Our clients tried their hand at creating festive green hats and generally dressing up and having a jolly good time.

Community Music Day

Our crew have recently started attending our local Community Music Days at Greenbank. These are the highlight of the week, and a great time for our facilitators and clients to mix and mingle and dance, sing or just sit and enjoy some music.
