NDIS Visual Arts Programs Update

May has been buzzing with excitement in our NDIS Visual Arts Programs. We currently run a few different programs throughout the week. From screen printing, watercolour, pottery and so much more to come.

Here’s an overview of what our teams have been working on:

Screen Printing

We have started a brand new screen printing program. Participants learnt to create a stencil from a transferred image of choice. Then they learn about registration and setting up a screen-printing area before learning techniques on how to transfer the design onto fabrics.

The participants have made so far:

  • a custom apron with their name and an animal of choice
  • custom t-shirts (one is a Pokémon theme!)
  • printed tea towels which will be used across several programs including cooking!

It’s been so great to see how creative each person is, and how they are so open to trying new things.

Painting

In painting this month, we have been focusing on the facilitator getting acquainted with the participants and assessing and their abilities. So far we have tackled:

  • The elements in painting a beach scene where the participants develop a painting featuring their own loves of beach life.
  • Beginners’ watercolour learning the techniques of dry on dry, dry on wet, wet on dry and wet on wet as well as liner brush usage.
  • Participants also learned about Abstraction, Primary Colours, strong line usage to enhance a work being inspired by Piet Mondrain.
  • In week one we learned about the colour wheel and created our own

I’m sure you will agree that the artwork has been incredible so far!

Pottery Update

Our Facilitator from our Pottery/Ceramics class has also been getting acquainted with the skills of the participants this month. The program has featured running through the techniques of slab and pinch pot building. We have looked at both functional ware and sculpture.

Participants also completed their previous module on Bird baths. They have started on their Robots Project, designing and creating their own robots on paper then turning these into a 3d pottery sculpture!
